Search Engine Optimization

Search engine optimization, or SEO, is the process of improving your site's ranking in search results (Google, Bing, Yahoo! etc.). There are many factors that come into play in ranking your site's ranking. Your competitors, your location, your type of business, your website (!) and its' content are just a few factors to keep in mind when working with SEO.

Squarespace and SEO

Squarespaces' CMS (Content Management System) has ready built-in processes that automatically help your site's SEO. All of this is very technical, but the good thing thing is that the biggest part is done for you. There are of course many things you can do to help improve the ranking results.

Here are a few pointers to look at;

  • Your site map. This tells search engines about the structure of its content.

  • SSL certificates. Squarespace offers theses for free and can have a positive impact on your raking.

  • AMP. Accelerated Mobile Pages, creates lightweight versions of web pages to help them load faster on a mobile device.

  • Use search tools (Google and Bing) to maintain updates.

  • Structure content with headings. Search engines typically give headings a higher priority. Working with Headings (h1, h2 and h3) will drastically help your site's improvement.

  • Add alt text to images. Search engines use alt text to identify the content of a page, since bots can only read text.
